Vintage French Petrol Lighter from 1911-1938
This aluminium petrol lighter was built between 1911-1938. It is a souvenir from the small French town of Saint-Gaudens.
The most interesting part might be on the underside. It’s a so-called lighter tax stamp.
At that time, not only tobacco products were taxed in France, but also lighters.
And thanks to the shape of the seal and the engraved goddess Minerva, we can determine the year of manufacture relatively accurately.
Unfortunately, a piece of the tax stamp has broken off, sometime between 1911 and today… :-)
